About Me

My name is Yanira Sanchez-Rogers and I am creating a space to bring awareness to the intersectionality of our Black and Brown history.

As an Afro Dominican-American, I aim to expand the research of black identity in the African diaspora, particularly in Latin America, challenging both the individualistic and hegemonic narratives.  In advocating for the collective welfare, I can promote an interconnected view of society, recognizing how inequality, racism and colonialism are systemic and not individual failures.

My research into Black identity in Latin America can provide insight on how historical and contemporary struggles faced by Black communities in the region shape their group belonging, identity, and resistance within global contexts.

My work would give a platform to marginalized voices, fostering greater recognition of Afro-descendant cultures and histories in Latin American societies, promoting social inclusion and challenging colorblind ideologies.  On a global scale, I wish to contribute to ongoing conversations about the African diaspora’s complex transnational identity and the legacy of slavery and colonialism in shaping racial dynamics worldwide.

I aim to encourage cross-cultural solidarity among Black and Brown communities in the Americas, foster global discussions about race and power and advocate for policies that address historical injustices while promoting unity and social transformation.
